Drawing frustrations
Jul. 16th, 2009 04:31 pmWhy does my anthromorphic tiger keep coming out short? Is it because I'm drawing each character in small boxes and there wouldn't be enough room to make the face? I don't know and it's kind of irritating. My tiger character looks kind of like a bear at the moment, but hopefully when I add the stripes and other tiger characteristics, that would change. Finally, I've been trying to do the determined grin that many shonen heroes too and it looks a bit too evil for some reason. Maybe because I didn't draw the eyes out yet? Speaking of eyes, I'm having trouble drawing the eyes without making him look like some sly schemer and falling into potential stereotypes! He's supposed to be a friendly competiting type, not a sly schemer!
Sorry, I should explain what I'm doing. I'm currently drawing out the characters of a series I'm doing. It's a large cast - around thirty protagonists - and I've been doing the first versions on two pieces of paper and a reciept! How do I fit thirty characters on two pieces of paper and a reciept? I drew the characters on the reciept first and measured how large each box was before tracing boxes on the two papers. I'm doing this so I wouldn't waste paper experimenting on how I could make the characters come out as I want them too. As you could see from above, I've runned into some frustrations.
I've noticed that I haven't been writing and drawing as often as required to post stuff before I die! So I've began a daily goals list, where for around a half hour, I would write a fanfic, outline a future fic, or draw, whether I have the inspiration for it or not. I'm aware that most of it might turn out to be crap, but as one blogger said, writers usually have to write themselves back to insiration since "I don't feel like writing" doesn't go over well with the publishing houses/audience. In addition, even if what is churned out crap, you at least have something more concrete to improve upon than something floating around my head.
