Pattern Changes and Stories
May. 30th, 2018 10:51 pmNow I can concentrate on my fanfic projects. I came across a writing exercise that involves copying through handwriting a story you admire most for twenty to thirty minutes and then writing your own story for two hours. It interested me so much I intended to use it as soon as the semester ended on Sunday, but forms and other matters delayed me until Tuesday. I unwisely decided to listen to an audio drama while first doing the copying, which meant I didn’t take in anything from it and the writing kind of suffered. I fixed that the next day and in the two weeks since, I did begin to pick up on certain matters, like prose doesn’t have to be so descriptive and the dialogue attributions too fancy to make the story engaging. Going through the second and third drafts of a We Will Hold On Forever chapter, it has made me edit like I’m using a meat cleaver. Cut, cut, cut. Too soon to see what other or deeper changes might happen but I look forward to them.
With this alteration to my usual schedule, it does leave me little time to watch movies and shows beside the current Sentai and Rider. I brought kaiju DVDs so they eould be watched, not gather dust. I’m eying the possibility of dropping Tumblr for a week when June starts. I try to be selective in what I reblog but all posts seem interesting or important, and it can be hard to scroll past. It eats up a few hours I could use for something else. Maybe whatever happens, I limit myself to fandom posts, urgent information and/or posts I create. I don’t know if I can fully drop it but I’ll see. It’s not well built for socializing and even if lurking is the appeal of the internet, I would like to socialize some. I could also use this to read and watch more stories, which is good for improving and evolving your storytelling skills.
That’s all for now. With my delayed usual daily writing and with vague thoughts of reorienting my sleep schedule, I’m likely going to stay up rather late tonight. Until the end of June, see you!
