So yeah, I have slept through Thanksgiving. Honestly, I’m not bothered, most, if not all of the food isn’t to my taste and I’ve never been much interested in extended family meetings and reunions that come with such holidays, never mind the horrible history behind that holiday’s origin. I’ve been concentrating on Tumblr and going through the 200, 300 or so posts that I’ve missed due to my erratic sleep schedule. Sometimes reblogging these posts can be a bit of a chore, since I have a weak refusal in resisting some posts but they are usually important or interesting.
To break up the long process, I usually watch a Journeyman Pictures video group on country, since I like learning about other countries. It is in turn interesting and depressing to look through the North American countries’ cultures and struggles. I suspect the U.S. had a big hand in many of those issues and these specials sometimes explicitly admit it. Through some of the earlier specials can be a bit annoying as subtitles or dub-overs aren’t giving to interviewee’s speaking the local language. I suspect when the company took the files and uploaded them to youtube, whatever version of a translation track there is wasn’t put there with it. I’m listening to them with a critical ear, as I’m not sure of the media company’s /politics, and they can rank prim and proper reserved and attempt to remain “neutral” in issues that one shouldn’t be neutral for. Still, it’s pretty interesting. I’m currently up to Cuba now and I’ll see how many countries I can go through.
I mentioned I’ll talk about TV shows I watched. I’m currently watching Future Card Buddyfight. It’s like a card game show combined with Mons. Ohoho, it exists to shill merchandise and doesn’t focus on the partner relationships which would please me but I like it. Though the main character Gao and his partner Drum are kind of spotlight stealers and win most of the games they’re involved in, I can’t help but find myself enjoying them. The other characters are great as well, though I think there should be more gal characters and especially gal partners. Like with other Mon shows tilted toward boys, they seem to “compensate” for there being a gal characters by giving them a male partner even through the reverse is usually rare (Though in this show, there is one guy Buddy Fighter with a gal partner).
Despite myself not wanting to get story ideas for another show, especially one still ongoing, ideas for a specific fanfic are wiggling inside my mind, adapting and changing when new details about characters and the setting come in. It involves a certain character’s familial connection that hasn’t shown up on screen but is presumed to exist. I’m not sure if I’ll ever write or post it, but its fun to play with in my head. Besides, the show is already following a plot beat or two I have going on in my head and by the time the show ends, or provides an opportunity to insert this fanfic in, I would probably have already moved onto something else.
For other shows, I’m onto Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V. I can’t remember why I picked it up after dropping 5Ds due to juggling too many shows and skipping Zexal for the same reason but I find some of the new blood now in charge of the creative staff have made a great story and lovely characters I would like to stick around and see the fate of. Yuuya’s a more distinct protagonist with his cartoon animal Entermate deck and Yuzu’s shaping up to be a great gal lead of her own. I enjoy her rivalry with Masumi, and like how the gal characters seem to be treated a wee bit better than in previous Yu-Gi-Oh series. I just hope they don’t drop the supporting cast as plot (and card selling) progress like in previous entries.
I’ve kept up with the latest Sentai, Toqger. The trains and imagination theme make for a youthful but sincere tone that is enjoyable. The heroes aren’t very complex but they are engaging to watch. It’s great we’re back to two girls on a team again The color switching will hopefully start cracking the usual standards on what guy and gal rangers usually wear. Having more lady antagonists is great, though there isn’t some genuine criticism about the gender roles currently at play. The status quo changes enough to remain interesting yet there is breathing space where some fun character stuff could happen. Though fandom reception is cool, I hope some things here are carried on for Ninninger and beyond.
I’m also intrigued by Kamen Rider Drive. After the drama of Gaim, both in and out of series, the change with Drive is a bit of a breather. The producer and head writer from Kyoryuger are in charge here. I don’t want to jinx it with only 7 episodes in but it seems Kiriko and Rinna are treated better than other gal characters from the head writer Sanjo and especially with Kyoryuger. Shinnosuke and Mr. Belt are great protagonists with their past troubles and determination, and Kiriko and Rinna remain fabulous with tracking down information, and the other characters have the potential to be just as amazing yet. The villain side is only just beginning to reveal their layers, so my interest with them is peaking only now. I have no idea where any of this is going but I’m interested.
That’s all coming to mind for now. It’s nearing midnight and my younger brother and his guy friends who are over are being noticeably loud and probably tipsy. It’s time for me to turn my attention to the last Intro to Poetry poem I need to write. I’m thinking of something related to the Legion from the Gamera Heisei trilogy. Whatever the case, I’ll probably update near the end of December, where a lot would have presumably happened. Until then, farewell!
