Dinosaurs and fanfics part 2!

davetheanalyzer Been done with the semester for nearly two weeks now and apparently grades came back where I passed highly in both classes. I edited the final essay for Critical Theory and Practice after getting feedback from the professor. Fortunately, I seemed to have put it well together enough that I only needed to do cosmetic edits. The script for Script Writing was a bit more difficult. Due to that professor’s busy schedule, I had around three days to do a 20 page draft that I usually take two weeks to do. Trying to follow his advice and think up of alternatives to what I did was at times frustrating. I worked on it until the Friday midnight deadline two weeks back and eventually shrugged and just sent what I had. It seemed I got a good grade from that. Maybe I did improve some things. He did admit at one point script writers go over more drafts than we have time for in class and this final draft was just a simple stopping off point. Hopefully I’ve learned something from that which can be applied to my stories in the future.
And speaking of stories, I’m nearly bursting with The Land Before time fic ideas. There are several one-shots but I also have around four or more multi-chapter epics to juggle. The one I mentioned in the previous post is still being worked on. I’ve admittedly fumbled a bit through plotting the third arc of four (Though the last two chapters of arc 3 were easier to handle). But I tell myself that I can always change it and I need to get something down first. I’m still writing down segments of the parts I’ve already plotted.
But I’ve came up with some ideas for other epics. Another epic fic I have in mind takes place while Littlefoot’s group are teenagers and has a more “international” feel as it covers the characters of most of the movies. Yet another fic that simply mushroomed out from an amusing notion was the guardians of the gang get reverted back to children for a temporary time, where all sorts of shenanigans ensue. And there’s another, the first I mostly plotted, that I don’t want to give too much details about but is based on the plot of a video game I’ve seen a few Let’s plays off. I’ll see later if I’ll still have inspiration to pursue that. I also have a crossover notion or two skittering about.
For one shots, I’ve already completed my first one which will be posted on the first Sunday of June. It’s basically just a fill in of a scene from The Land Before Time 2 of Littlefoot’s thoughts about Chomper. Basically it’ll be my “dipping my toe into new fandom” fic. After that, I have some more in mind. One I plotted last week showed what went down when Bron and Shorty’s herd first visited the Great Valley, which would build Littlefoot’s relationship with the pair. Another shall explain Shorty’s absence in the 14th and latest film but I’ll wait to see the film to deal with that. There’s an idea about what Pterano gets up to after getting banished from the Great Valley. And finally I have an idea where Ali saved Rhett from a threat after they leave the Great Valley. Those are the ideas I currently have and many more might yet come to me as I finish going through The Land Before Time material.
That’s all for the moment. Have delayed my usual writing and watching schedule to write a We Will Hold On Forever chapter that I’m having a go on. Gobbled up through a Let’s Play I’m rewatching. Maybe I can finish with that and move on to other entertaining videos. I also might want to replace some icons of mine to reflect my current Land Before Time status. Until next month, see you!

Speaking of that, I’m over halfway through the TV series and it’s charming, though the half hour format does make the pacing and songs a bit weird. I think I have a handle of Chomper, who’s a cinnamon roll but Ruby’s a bit of a harder nut to crack. She likes to repeat herself by reversing the sentence structure, though I’m not certain if it’s to say “that’s the way things are” or “bringing light to something interesting by stating the obvious.” She does have a slight intellectual bent from what I’ve seen and hopefully watching more of the series shall enlighten me more on her character. Also headcanoned how Redclaw and company, the allegedly most dangerous sharpteeth around, keep getting bested by Littlefoot and the gang – something about the trio being more used to hunting and taking down dinosaurs around their sizes. Mentally cataloguing most of the events here in case they come up in another fic.
In other fic news, I’ve resumed my weekly writing ritual, though with The Land Before Time eating my brain, I’m not tackling fics for other fandoms with the same amount of enthusiasm as before. Still, I’m progressing through. Nevertheless, the problem with working on a different fic every day was that some take more forever than others to complete. This especially went for long chaptered pieces. It would take forever to complete them. I should really think about making time so I could write the longer chaptered pieces more daily. I don’t know if I would have to sacrifice some other thing I do to make time for that but we’ll see. I have too many stories in my mind and especially too many epics, and I want to speed up posting at least some of the epics some time this century.
On the original story front, I’ve decided the five I was working on needed a major rewrite, so put them aside for yet another story that had been blooming in my mind. Let’s just say it involves pets as characters and leave it at that. So at the moment, I’m fleshing out characters and working out how to pace the plot. It’ll probably have all of my, let’s say, twisted writer fingerprints all over it.
