A bit of a wrench has been thrown into my fall semester schedule. The class on playwriting cancelled due to there not being enough students, so I have had to look for classes that interest me and fit my schedule. The trouble is all the ones that catch my attention so far either apparently have requirements I haven’t pursued or were full. My advisor said he would look into that a few days ago and he is likely busy, so I would have to wait for the verdict on that.

In the meantime, I seem to be getting sick. Ever since Monday night and Tuesday morning, I started to feel mucus and a cough which had grown on Wednesday. I might have caught the bug that caused Mom to cough to the point of making a retching-like sounds that she seemed to be on the mend from. So I’m in for a long haul that might cause even more chaos for my sleep schedule than it already goes through. But I’ll get through it like I always do.

And speaking of chaos, my watch and read schedule had been thrown even more behind than it already is. I thought a few weeks back I could try to keep a better sleep schedule by breaking from a pattern that often caused me to stay up more than was necessary. I plan to resume when July came around.

In the meantime, I’ve just been writing more of The Land Before Time fic “We Will Hold On Forever” since I’ve been on such a go. I’ve discovered an OC I have for the story had another layer that made her more compelling and found myself struggling to write Ducky. She and Petrie had been the characters I’ve had a more difficult time grasping, though I think I might be twinging more on the latter. Hopefully writing more scenes with her would give me insights into her. I don’t want to neglect any of the characters simply because I couldn’t understand them. In this, and a few others, I feel Littlefoot and his gang should get as much equal focus as possible. That way, these stories would feel like true ensemble fics.

And writing out the chapters does clear a few some plot points and order up. For example, in a climactic moment for an arc, I originally plotted several sets of characters to be in different places as they were endangered. But I realized it would be far simpler to just group most of Littlefoot’s gang in one place and Littlefoot in another. I didn’t even have a location for Littlefoot while writing until it hit me and I rewrote everything I put down. That made the scenes and the dialogue much better. Even for the chapter I’m writing now, I’m finding things to change or clear up that make the story flow better. I really like this fic. I hope I can get to post this sometime within a year or two.

In the meantime, I’ve made some descent progress on Familial Tour, that story about Bron and Shorty’s first visit to the Great Valley. It’s focused on them and Littlefoot, but his friends and some of the parents get some camera time as well. I’ve already gone through two scenes with one set that would only reappear at the end and another who only show up for their scene. I was glad they felt like their distinct selves even with their limited appearance. I shall see how it goes when I resume.

The Godzilla and Anguirus friendship story is churning along too. I’m started tackling one of many fight scenes and there’s some trepidation. The fight choreography for giant monsters seem a bit different from other fandoms, especially since monsters in my stories wouldn’t have dialogue. I’m probably going to have to watch some of the Godzilla movies and observe carefully how the fights are arranged so it would be more interesting than “one guys hits another, the other does the same, etc.” On a brighter note, I appear to have gotten the emotions of the monsters correct. They’re conveyed in description and I might have to tweak it later to make it more compelling, but they seem close to the personalities I observed in these movies. One appeal of Godzilla, Gamera, and other such giant monster movies were that they were sort of like people and I want my depiction of them to be accurate.

That’s all I can think of to talk about. Outside of fic babble, nothing much I want to divulge. When I next update, I’d probably be recovering from this sickness and trying to get my sleep schedule back on some sort of track. Until next time, see you!
