The End of 2022

Writing a post over many days can sometimes be a strange experience, where new details need to be added and clarified. On the first day I started writing, Dad just finished wrapping Christmas presents while one of our pets were nosing around and had to be shushed away from the wrapping. I’m about to have another virtual meeting to continue job hunting in a few minutes. I begin this sentence after finishing the virtual meeting and clarifying appointments roughly an hour later. Christmas is around the corner and I know what I’m going to get. I mostly order my own presents in my adult years and my parents only have to order for a few friends and family themselves. It was a quiet arrangement and I prefer it that way. I’m not an adventurous sort and like relaxing and following my whims during the holidays.
I saw Strange World. I didn’t know if I would due to the middling reception but since it was coming to Disney+ so soon and there were parts that made me want to watch, I decided to check it out. It was alright. The theme was to not expect your children to follow in your footsteps and to not be dismissive of their interests. Jaeger and Searcher cared for their sons but weren’t as nice about their interests. Jaeger was a jerk about it but Searcher wanted to protect and care for Ethan so much he was also controlling of the boy. The moments of focus on Ethan’s gay crash were nice but I wish they could have gone a bit further. There is also a theme not to use black-and-white thinking especially for nature, which’s pretty important in the climax. The black-and-white thinking theme probably intersected with the fatherly conflict but I wish it was explored a bit more. I did like how Searcher and Meridian got along so well as a married couple. The film was made by one of the directors and writers for Raya and the Last Dragon, which has gotten criticism from some quarters about its Southeast Asian representation, but that’s the only caveat that comes to mind. I didn’t vibe with the film but if it’s sounds like your cup of tea, feel free to watch.

I got back from a dentist clearing roughly 4 hours ago and I’ll be going to the chiropractor soon. I personally went through 2022 fine and had some accomplishments, getting my daily writing back to 2 hours a day, going to some job interviews, and trying to be a wee more social. Hopefully that continues in 2023. Until the end January, see you!
