A Couple Returns and Blue Beetle

Finally, after a long time slowly composing rewrite notes for my fanfic, I’ve reached the actual rewrite part for this chapter’s second draft. I’ve been going at a fair clip at roughly 4 pages a day. I’m happy at this change in pace and surmise I was slow on rewrite notes due to distraction, the chapter being on the longer side and there being so much that needed to be changed. Hopefully I can keep up the momentum but be forgiving of myself when I slow down at times.
I saw Blue Beetle. It had decent reviews and the discord I’m part of likes it, so I decided to give it a watch. It was alright. The strongest part was the family dynamics and that they were all aware of Jaime becoming a hero from the beginning. The villainous Victoria Kord was also interesting, an evil corporate executive who took away power from relatives who have more morals. Racism and imperialism are a factor in this movie, with Ignacio Carapax being a victim and then perpetrator of it, and Victoria Kord who victimized and made the former a tool and looked down on Hispanic people and even kept misnaming a Hispanic scientist in her employ.
I like that Jaime didn’t want to kill the bad guys and persuaded Khaji-Da not to, even if that should have been given more emphasis. Though the bad guys still die at the end, which’s a shame, since I thought it’d been interesting to have them continue to be a threat in regards to Victoria or redeem himself in regards to Carapax. Also a pity that the father died since apparently what made Jaime unique was that his family lived and knew he was a hero from the beginning, and a family death makes him more typical of other heroes. Victoria Kord’s actor has said some sketchy things and I wasn’t as into the film as others but if this seems up your alley, give it a watch. But be sure to support the striking writers and actors (I don’t read the comics but I have vaguely played with the idea of how Jenny might fit into the comics if she can’t be Ted Kord’s daughter).
That’s all for now. Not much to talk about. Until September’s end, see you!
