Kind of annoying, since I just caught with all my missed days of fanfic writing and now I’ll have to double-up again. Ah well, I can fit that in somewhere. It turns out that I won’t be writing double every other Thursday after all but I can do every other Tuesday, which would be helpful to get through the additional missed writing days. I have toyed with the notion of sharing my original fiction writing with the discord I’m part of but I’m still in the middle of the second draft and I want to be done with the third draft before I show it off to anyone.
I saw the first season of the very first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. It’s very much of the late 80s but I can see the charm of it. The titular turtles all have distinct personalities even if they can still be goofy teenagers. April O’Neil is the exasperated adult in the room, who wants to get the scoop but seems to be gaining some fondness for the turtles. Splinter’s pretty nice so far, though him also being the formerly Japanese human Hamato Yoshi can have some yikes implications. It was only 5 episodes, so there wasn’t a lot of time but I’ll see how the show develops in far longer seasons. In the meantime, I’m hopping back into Dragon Ball’s next arc with the introduction of Krillin.
I decided to see the film Sleight. It was a 2017 film I was thinking of seeing but couldn’t go to for whatever reason and when I noted down what films were available for streaming, this was one of them and I decided to take advantage of Netflix to watch it. I did like it and was surprised to see it was an hour and a half but it packed what was needed in that timeframe. I do like Bo, a nice, quiet young man who was forced to go into drug dealing to support his sister after his mother’s death. The small sci-fi element with him able to manipulate metal and do other magic tricks was cool. There are a lot of nice characters in this story, from Bo’s sister Tina to Holly and even those Bo deals drugs with.
It says something about Holly’s kindness and Bo’s own goodness that she doesn’t run when he reveals the unpleasant things he’s entangled with. I don’t know if Georgi is a friend or family member to Bo but she must be close to look after his sister and confide in her about his drug deal struggles. I also liked that Angelo seemed nice at first but either him or the needs of the trade lead to crueler and ruthless parts of him being revealed. Only when Bo uses his powers and makes clear threatening his family was a no-go does he get out from under Angelo’s thumb and moves away to live a happy life. There is a fat joke, mentions of parental abuse, and teeth being pulled out and a hand being chopped off. With that in mind, I recommend this film to all interested.
That’s all for now. I hope Israel’s attack on Gaza stops, Palestine becomes free, and the hostages are freed. Until the end of November, see you!
