Nearing the end of another month and I’m still progressing through my five or so writing projects.

I’m near the end of my first Buddyfight fanfic, A Young Encounter, but I’ll probably need to do maybe a second draft ala Dinner with Royalty and Babysitter for a Day before I feel comfortable with posting it. I hope I could do a good wind down to the conclusion for canon character after I finish with the two OC characters I created in order to start the fic in the first place. I feel like I’ve got their voices down but I’ll see upon the second draft. With the secrets being hinted at with Asmodai and Jack’s origin slipping my mind, I might have to add in a moment or two that’ll hint at them. I also need to explain Tetsuya’s absence and make sure the OC is still present enough so they don’t seem like they’re forgotten. I have a suspicion this would be among the first fics I post and hopefully it’ll be decent enough, entering a new fandom and all.

For Call of Anxiety, I’m kind of struggling there since I don’t want it to be just a recount from the POV of Asagi’s father but his somewhat comical reactions to Asagi’s views and the odd dangerous situations she finds herself in. At the moment, it feels like a chronology of Naoya’s worry and the increasingly grim world of the Gamera trilogy. I’m definitely rewriting it when I’m done with some more humor. Maybe cut between Naoya’s assuring himself nothing special will happen to Asagi’s trip or Sendai with a simple statement from a newsperson that Sendai has been annihilated. I’m more used to lacing comedy into a story than writing a comedy, if you get what I’m saying. This is sort of new territory for me. I’m at the point in Gamera 3 where Asagi’s back in Japan and a scene away from going to help Nagamine investigate Ayana. A certain gag is floating in my mind for that moment but for now I’ll plow through to the end and see what eventually results.

I’m nearly finished with the second draft of Dinner with Royalty and I like a lot of it. I made the vague dinner offerings more specific and made some dialogue twitches. But it’s hard to make sure all the character chatter is giving information the audience mostly already knows in a funny yet revealing way, and not have it devolve to boring, at times tangential natter. I want the story to be a bit cute with Shoutmon, now a king, and his compatriots interacting with Taiki’s mom and their awkward attempts to understand one another. Informative but funny, with only a bit of drama at the end that I need to foreshadow more. I would probably need another look through it again before I’m comfortable posting it. There are moments where I forget the plot points I planned and I would need to smooth over such continuity flubs.

That has also been a bit of a problem with Babysitter for a Day. There was one thread for a OC I completely forgot about until I ran across it and I struggled with what to do before deciding to tweak a bit. I’ve expanded on a few points and reworded others but I’m following the same general story. I hope to add a wee bit of extra humor and cuteness since Shoutmon and child Digimon interacting would get to that. Granted, those moments are in the later part of the story but I feel like there should be a few moments earlier. I’ll see what I do about it when I finish this draft.

Already started on the first draft for the final chapter of Past Wild Endurance. Yeah, I ended up dividing what was supposed to be the final chapter since there was enough material in the other half. So far a bit clunky since I didn’t exactly sketch much detail out for this part but I added some details in my summary document that would hopefully jog my memory. I kind of want to make the dialogue moments shorter so they wouldn’t make future scenes seem a bit unnecessary. I’m also debating something about the final scene, whether something that happens should be changed into something else that could be equally poignant. The initial version would be sweet in many ways but I kind of wonder about the logistics. I don’t have an idea of what a second version would be but I might think that up when I reach that scene.

And back to the second draft for the first chapter of that same story, I’m nearly on page twenty and feel like there might be an additional twenty or so pages to come. I might trim some dialogue and description here and there but this is going to be longer than the usual thirty page pattern. Which is natural, since there’s a lot to set up. The plot has kicked in and I barely touched on the other plot elements that’ll emerge. The writing so far can alternate between being very natural and easy to being excruciatingly hard. Sometimes I can be stumped for over a half hour before I figure out how to put the words out in the right way or just go “screw it” and write something down. I don’t know if it’s related to my at times chaotic sleep schedule but it can be frustrating having the idea of how to say it but having a hard time putting it into specifics or remembering what my turn of phrase was going to be in the first place. I hope this doesn’t become a common problem to come but for now I’ll concentrate on getting to the parts of the story that excite me.

And that’s all of my writing updates. Vacation is going as expected. My watch schedule for the Hunters arc of Digimon Xros Wars and Heartcatch Precure seems to be becoming wobbly again. Now taking two hours to watch through and comment on an episode is a lucky day indeed. Composing the comments are always the holdup, with trying to find the right scene to comment on and right turn of phrase to use in that comment. I’m more seriously considering dropping the photoset number down after Smile, as it’s hard to manage time with this. It doesn’t mean I’d stop liveblogging, I’m saving some posts for the original Godzilla movie whenever time opens up. That might be my next thing, doing it for kaiju movies.

I also saw Inside Out last Friday, which was fun to watch and it’s good to hear this film is rolling in the critical reviews and the money. I might see the Minions film later since I heard the reviews for it are decent, not mind blowing like Inside Out but in the adequate grade area of “C.” There’s a few other movies I want to see later this year, mostly animated though that new Star Wars one looks interesting. I can’t tell if I’m not seeing as many movies as the previous years but it feels like there are longer gaps and less of a scramble to see them.

Also have been enjoying Carranger. I’ve heard it’s a parody but so far I’m mostly rolling with its silly punches. It seems very sweetly sincere and I heard some characters go in interesting directions, so I look forward to watching the rest.

Anyway, that’s all for the month. Unless something particularly spectacular happens, I won’t update until the end of July. I hope I’m not becoming too repetitive with these posts. Until then, see you!
