I joined an online group. After twitter’s CEO made one of his many foolish decisions, a person I followed put up an invite to their discord and I decided to join it. I’ve been commenting sporadically on various topics and even joined in the voice chat a couple times. It has been an interesting experience, though there were a few moments where I feared I made an alienating flub. This could be a good place to socialize and make connections, especially with the library writer group being off this and next month and it’s future so uncertain.

On July 4th, I decided to watch the film Missing. I only became aware that this Searching sequel was released a few months ago but by then it already left theaters and I didn’t get a chance to watch it until my mom pointed out it was on Netflix. It stars completely different characters from searching but that’s more than alright and they’re interesting and endearing. The mystery is also good, with lots of clues that set up the reveal at the end. It also a nice flip of Searching with the child searching for their parent this time. I like the reveal segments contextualizing the seemingly dead dad as an abuser. It also used the in-story use of true crime recreation to show how the story ended in keeping with the online/camera viewpoint of this film and Searching. I also like the lead makes a friend in Colombia and facilitates family reconciliation, as well as that though she has a fight with her friend, they remain close throughout the crises. This film covers domestic abuse and kidnapping but with that in mind, I recommend this film to all interested.

That’s all for now. It’s quiet now a family member’s staying in another state for vacation. Edited and posted this later in the day than usual but I had a busy morning helping with shopping and doing my daily writing. Until July’s end, see you!
